Wes Russell

Wes grew up in Augathella, a small country town in south western Queensland. His love for animals in general, and horses in particular, stemmed from growing up surrounded by animals. There were chooks, a dog, goats for milk and a farm cat that lived under the house. A number of neighbours had horses, and in the early years milking cows roamed the town streets.

Wes spent school holidays on his grandparent’s mixed farm in the Darling Downs which included dairy and beef cattle and pigs. There were also a number of horses to enjoy from polocrosse ponies to thoroughbreds and there were always pony rides each holiday.

Wes’s big dream of becoming a veterinarian was shelved when the opportunity of employment in a bank came along. After 25 years in the bank though, Wes finally traded riding his swivel chair behind a desk for riding horses on a cattle station out west.

“My long held desire for working with horses and getting plenty of riding was fulfilled on the station. All the cattle work was completed on horseback and using dogs. I loved it, and it was exciting to realise I could get paid for doing something I enjoyed.”

During this time an opportunity presented itself to learn Equine Muscle Release Therapy (Bowen on Horses). Wes was accepted into the course and spent the next two years studying both EMRT and Bowtech Bowen Therapy on Humans graduating in EMRT in 2010 and Bowen Therapy in 2011. Wes is currently completing his Diploma in Bowtech Bowen Therapy.

“I really feel like I have found my true purpose in working with Bowen. I believe that if you work at what you love you will never work – and this is definitely how I feel when I am immersed in my treatments.”

Wes’s enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to facilitating healing in horses, hounds and humans is evident when you watch him immersed in his work or discussing the transformations available from these therapies. He has developed an obvious passion and skill for perfecting balance and alignment in horses, hounds and humans.
